Home again

We just got home from Utah and visiting some missionaries friends from Chile (Austins and Wilsons). We stayed with the Austin at their cabin at Mammoth Creek, Utah. What a pretty cabin. What wonderful hosts they were. We did all the things that I love doing. Eat, eat, ride around looking at places, seeing neat thing, like the mammoth creek spring, lava flows, deer and antelope, trees, hearing stories about etc.,, building puzzles, playing games and getting up early to watching the sun come up. The wonderful time we were having came to an end and we returned to Southern California. California is not pretty just dry and brown and ready to burn any time.

No matter where I go. I love getting up and watching the sun come up. Adele is an earlier riser, too, so I didn't have to tip toe around with the lights out for fear of waking someone up. I never got a picture of their cabin I was too busy looking at all the antiques she had, and remembering when we used them at our home. This is an antelope we saw there. One buck and 13 does. Maybe he was a mormon and had lots of wives. just a thought, it was mormon country,
Richard Wilson, Dennis and Victor Austin. The rest of the pictures didn't turn out. I'll get the wives next time.

Playing cards. We were playing cards outside and the wind kept blowing the cards. So the snacks became card holders. Better use of snacks than eating them. Notice the copper glasses from Chile.

We had a wonderful time. We loved seeing the places that they had talked so much about, in Chile. Now I am excited to go back and want them to come and visit us.

Our visit with Catherine

Daisy is always fun to see. She even remembered us. She did all her tricks for us. She is the smartest dog I know. Need help training your dog talk to Catherine and Greg. We went to the farmer's market in Fruita on Saturday. Just a small town vegetable market. Everyone is friendly and nice and helpful. I loved it. That was one of the things that I loved to do in Chile was go to the farmer's market every Saturday.

Catherine bought some roma tomatoes and we came home and made tomato sauce to can. It was real good. We also did some red beets . She had made the pickles before we got there. She plans on getting some peaches and doing them next. Call her if you need canning tips.

She is becoming a real good food storage person. Not just preaching it but also doing it her self.

Look what we went to dinner in Wednesday night.

And I rode in the rumble seat, too. We put up the back window so we could visit with Annette and Stuart while we were driving at top speed, 35 miles an hour. The only problem is an old lady can't get in and out of it easy.

The happy owners are our good friends the Steingraber.

We went to a place right next to our Stater's Brothers. NY Pizza. Their Aunt Pat's salad is to die for.

When you get retired you go out to dinner all the time.

Aquarium of the Pacific

We went to the Aquarium of the Pacific a couple of weekends ago with John and Sueann Hathaway. It was lots of fun with the most amazing fish displays. We saw baby sharks just hatching. I loved the tanks of beautiful jelly fish. Lots of fish that live in the water right there by our cabin in Mexico. VERY INTERESTING. Very people friend. Not a lot of walking either.

One of the best displays was the Lorifaet forest. Of course we bought some nector and tried to feed very full birds. Finally Dad and John gave their nector away to some young kids who were thrilled.

My camera doesn't take pictures very good through the glass tanks.

But here are a couple that did turned out. No, these are not sea horses. This one is a Weed Dragon. They have gotten the weed dragon to reproduce in the aquarium.

This one is a Leave Dragon. He is what makes the aquarium famous. He hasn't reproduced yet so they need to get new ones ever so often from New Zealand I think it was.

We had a ball and then went out to eat at Chang's right there next to the aquarium. I was so hungry and the food was wonderful. I was too hungry to even take a picture of the food. I just wanted to dive in and eat. We ate the everything and then Sueann and I even had dessert. It was a wonderful Saturday afternoon.

Bobbin lace, schneeberger

Last week I spent 2 days at a lace making workshop. The teacher was Lia ??? from Holland. She was here to teach classes for the National Lacers Convention in LA. She knows how to make 20-30 different types of lace. She is amazing.

8-12 ladies all met at Betty Jo's home in Redlands and had Lia teach us how to make schlneberger lace. We started in the morning at 9:00 am and kept going until 5:00 pm in the afternoon. I am sure some even worked on their own in the evening.

Most of these ladies in attendances are the best lace makers in Southern Calif and I got to know them. What a treat.

I bought one of her books of schneberger lace patterns. Guess what I am going to be doing for the next 6 months. I learned lots of new skills at the workshop. I can't wait to make the butterfly lace.

Doesn't this look like fun sitting around talking and making lace?? If I talk while I am making lace I make mistakes, so I just listened.

This is the piece Shirley is making. She is the best lace makers that I know. My goal is to be as good as she is. Her work is beautiful.

JAKE'S FIRST HAIR CUT

Jake's first real hair cut.
When he was only four months old they tried, but he was just too wiggley. So he had to have a few bad home jobs.

Most of his black hair is gone and the silver is growing in.

Now you can tell that he only weighs 5 pounds. But those 5 pounds will chase any big dog on the street.

WILLOW

Willow's Baptizms We went to Hemet yesterday to see Willow get baptised. It was great. She had lots of friends and family there to witness it. Good luck Willow.
