World's End

I understand by the time  today the world will have ended.  According to the Mayan  calendar.

Goodbye to all my friends see ya on the other side.

Ha ha do you really think this will happen.  I don't.  I still have lots to do that I can't get done in just 15 more hours.

Sewing

Guess what I have been doing this last week and half.  I have been sewing and sewing and then back to JoAnn's  and sewing some more.
I have made 10 pillow cases for the grandkids for Christmas. If they happen to see this blog see if you can guess who is who. They are so easy to make.

I have made 3 monkeys and have one to go.  It is all cut out waiting for me to sew.
Finished this little puppy dog quilt.

Put up some of the Christmas decorations.  Shopped for Christmas.  Read one book.  Finished my bobbin lace necklace.  Played cards with the Rojo's. Walked Jakie twice a day.  Of couse cooked and did the dishes.  Very little house work, that is always last on my list of things  to do.  I have had fun.

See I was really there and I even let Dad take my picture too.
Sunrise over the ocean.  I still got up early to see the sun come up.  And walk around the ship.
Sun set over the ocean.   Can any thing be more beauitful)
Places we docked and sights we saw..

We ate wonderful too.  How is this for art work on a watermelon. The chocolate buffet was wonderful, too.
The end. I won't bore you with vacation pictures.

Truck or Treat at Grandma's House

Melissa and Dave were invited to a Halloween Party.  So the kids got to spent the night at Grandmas
.Our ward's  trunk or treat was the same night.  So they brought their costumes with.

What fun we had taking them with us.
Lily didn't want to wear the costume she brought, so into the dress up clothes we went and found this princess dress, which she said she would wear.  There were cuter outfits there but no this is what she want to wear.  Just after we got there of course she had to go to the bathroom and the dress ended back on backwards and grandma didn't even care.
Poppy was a cave woman.  She checked out my bird bones to wear in her messed up hair.  Added Jake's fox and skunk toys as skins she had caught, a bow with no arrows and a  necklace of animal teeth.  Turned out to be a real cute costume. Grandma thinks she should have won the best costume, but the judges did't think like grandma.
No Phoenix you can't be a hamburger again this year.  Willow wore her costume from last year.

What a fun weekend we had.  But just a little tired on Monday.

A work of Love

A little over a year ago Melissa ask me to make her a black and white quilt.  They have a king size bed and she wanted it to be a bed spread.  So I started to buy black and white prints.  I learned you have to be careful that the white isn't a off white.  Can I add a color to it.  No was always the answer.
Then I found this twister pattern, easy I could do it.  Afraid I would get lost in the size she wanted and get all the pieces mixed up. Big block was my answer.  Each block would be 30 plus inches. The plan was put into action.  A year sewing and buying more fabric I saw it completed.  Off to a quilter to have it machine quilted.  Then wait until her birthday to give it to her.  Here it is.

I made five pillows all sizes made out of the scraps.
It was so much fun to make.  But never again will I make one this size.
Happy Birthday Lizzy.

Willow's Quilt.

Willow wanted me to help her make a quilt.  So while she was here this summer, she made a quilt. I had lots of poke-a-dot fabrics, in which she could choose the ones she wanted to use. After she picked eight different pieces.  She was ready to cut.   Five  8 inches squares out of each fabric.

Then to the floor, planning which  pattern went where.   Cute pattern.
I showed her how to sew them together in rows.  And off she went sewing for a couple of hours.

If you learn to sew .  You must also learn to take apart.  UNPICK.
You need to keep all the seams pressed.
Finished product.  Didn't she do a super job.
I am very proud of her and the first quilt she made.  By the way she is only 11.
Excellent job Willow.

Humming Birds

We have tons of humming birds this summer.  They are just like flys, flying around  our patio.  They are use to us, that they will fly within inches of us.
I have counted as many as 13 drinking at once, and that is not counting the ones fly around waiting for an emepty spot to drink from.   They are slupping up  over 1 1/2 cups of sugar every day.  I just went to Sam's club today and bought  25 pounds more of sugar.
This little guy was guarding one feeder just for himself.  He was getting fat, not enough exerise. We called him fluff ball.
After a couple of weeks he just gave up the guarding.  Too many others .

I love them.  .  I have them trained they will drink what ever color of sugar water I make. There for a while they didn't want red go figure.

Mocking Jays

When Melissa's children was over here, a couple of weeks ago.  They were bored as kids goes, so grandma came up with an idea.  She told them she would give them $10 if they could catch the mocking bird or any other bird in my backyard.  Mocking Jays as they started to called them. (Hungrier Games).  To work they went with the net Grandpa let them use. And traps set all over the back yard.  No luck.

Then they wanted to know if I would give them $10 for a humming bird.  yes.  Willow had a plan just stand under the feeder and wait. She waited and almost got one.  Look close you can see it.
What about the lizards that lives there.  yes.  How about the Japanese beetles. yes, but only a $1 each.  At last they found something they could catch.  It didn't cost Grandma much that day, and they were busy all day long.

Poppy's First Try at Flying

We have had Melissa's children all week.  Poppy made weapons the first day.  She is very good at making bow and arrows.
What she really wanted to fly like a bird.  Grandma can-----------------------------.
At last she found something she could have, to make wings out of.  Above hard at work.
Finished wings.  Are they not fancy.  Don't you just love how she always makes her own fun.
I wouldn't let her jump off any thing higher to see if they worked.  Wonder why.
She was very proud she flew for a minute.
Only a small battle scar.
