Back again

My computer has been down for almost two months.; It has been up and then down for almost;four months. The geeks at best buy hid when they see me coming. But they were always nice to me and helped me anyways.; I think they have it fixed now. I hope so/
How did we live without computers and all these little things likes iphone, smart phone, notebooks, kindle ,x box, DS, kitchen gadgets, microwaves, just to name a few.. I was thinking back when I was little and what we had compared to my grandkids have today.
We didn't have running water in the house until I was five.
No telephone either. I was almost 15 when we got a telephone and then it was a party line. Party lines are fun, listening to everyone on your line. No car on week days. At age 14 I learned to drive the jeep. Then my brother and I could haul water to the sheep ONLY. I couldn't see over the steering wheel either, so I looked through it.
No TV either. There was only 3 channels.

Life was so much simpler then. We still had lots of fun we played out doors more. In the evening after supper we played Run Sheepy Run instead of watching TV. We created our own games. Played cards and board games.
We went to Library on Wednesday night to check out books instead of down loading them on our kindle.

Glad I am back.

Garden 2013

We have enjoyed the tomatoes from the garden this year.  Every lunch you will find some sliced tomatoes on the table.  I have been eating homemade tomato soup too. yumm.   Then the tomatoes we couldn't use I  have bottled.  Not a tomato has went to waste.

I may have some trouble harvesting this squash when it ripens.

We have eaten lots of fresh vegetables this summer.  Dennis is getting tired of zucchinis.  I hope we can still pick  fresh tomatoes for about a  month or more longer.

One Happy Grandma

Tim and Aleca brought the kids and came down for a short visit. We had so much fun this grandma forgot to take picture .  We spent one day at Snow's swimming the only day I took pictures.

The next day, they all went to the beach.  Grandma stayed home. This grandma can't take the sun that long.
The Snow's met us at Castle Park the next day for a day of rides and fun. Then the Snow's kids came home with us, to have  a big sleep over at grandma house.
The last day we just hung out at grandma's. Doing what they wanted.  With a lego building contest.

All eight of Melissa's and Tim's families. Oh no Lily is missing.
Lily is added but not too happy about it.  They are all sitting by age. Breckyn 13 , Zoey 12, Willow 12, Rugby 10, Poppy 9, Emerson 8, Phoenix 8, and Lily 5.
They winners of the Lego building contest.  Man did their personality pop out.  Lily and I were the judges.  From Phoenix who doesn't like building lego and found things already build.  To the hard core builders to Poppy who loves to tinder. Can you pick them out?
Grandma had a wonder time with eight of our 10 grandkids.  We got to know them better.   Thanks for coming.

Catch up on Quilting

Willow got her 12th birthday quilt.  I think it turned out quite cute.  She loved it too.
I saw a quilt with jars with insects in Utah about 2 years ago. It all started from there. I started collecting fabric.  One of my friends gave me a pattern.  Sewing and cutting and a quilt started forming.  Then some of the jars tipped over and butterflies and etc. got loose.    A real fun quilt to make.  I think Lily will get this one because she always wants a jar for bugs.  She wants grandpa to help her catch them.
There was an warning on the back of the pattern.  This may be additive.  It is.  See this little table top runner I making for Halloween.   I have fruit fabric that I have been collecting for canning jar quilt and candy for a Christmas runner.

90th Birthday

Dennis mother turn 90 the 13th of July.
We had a party for her.
She has 82 descendants in 90 years.  How is that.
We had about 60-70 family members show up to help her celebrate.

Mexico Again

We were in Mexico last week.  It was a work week. We painted and played.
The sun came up every morning.  This was the best of the sunrises.

The little white chest of drawers is now blue.  This chest has been with our family since 1977, and it was old then.
New electrical plug covers.  They all have different pictures on them.
New handles on all the cupboards and chest of drawers
The Grunion ran and Jake had a ball chasing them.  He was so sandy and wet.  I needed to hose him off to let him in the house.
I made flowers out of shells for my  garden
 Can you find the angle.
We went to breakfast down at Santa Maria with our neighbors Chuck and Janice.  We went on the beach, in their barney.  The food was good and it a fun getting to know some of the other couples, that live in here , 6 months out of the year.
We are going back Tuesday.  Yes, it is safe where we go.  No, drug cartel in the area fighting for their turf..  All the homes around us are American.

Birthday Quilts

I started last year, making all my little grand daughters a quilt, when they turned 12.  I use the value colors from the Young Women's program.
Here is Zoey's Quilt.  She turns 12 in April.  I love the twister. So easy and still looks hard.  I wish you could see the quilting it is beautiful, no I didn't do it myself..

This one is for Willow's. She turns 12 in July. Not bad since I didn't have a pattern and just figured it out by my self. I had seen a picture and liked it. It is easy too.  So off to the quilter  on Monday.  I hope they both like them.  I have had fun doing them.
I have want to make a star block for a long time. There is something about a star that I love.  Well here is my first star block and I made it all by my self.  I joined block of the month club, at our local Quilt Shop.  Where I love to spend my money I now have a 5 years supply of fabric.  Now I can learn how to make several different blocks.  This is my first block.  I can pick up block number 2 today.  At the end of the year I should have a whole quilt made
As you can tell I have fun just sewing and sewing.  I wish you lived closer (Christina or Brenda Sommers) and I would  bring my sewing machine and come over and sew with you.

Paper Nautilus

I have walked the shores of the  Sea of Cortez by San Felipe, for 30-40 years  I have found almost every kind of shell  to be found.  When we were there in January of 2013 I found this shell. Went back the next day and found three more.  Treasure for sure.
Now back to the cabin and look it up and see if I can find out what kind it is.  It is a Paper Nautilus or an Argonauta argo.  If you want to know more about it just look it up on the Internet.

My daffodils are just starting to bloom.  Spring and summer is on its way.

sewing and more sewing

What can I say.  I love to sew.  I have been making these little trash bags.  They set next to your sewing machine and  collect thread, material and etc, as you sew.   With a pin cushion on top.  I had no pattern so I have been just making it up as I go.

They call for a cute little pin cushion to put on  top.  I have searching the internet for cute patterns.  Here is some of them.

If you want just come to my house and you can sew with me .  I have two machines and my years supply of material.

Mexico Jan of 2013

Yes, I am back.  After the world ended, the next day my computer decided to take a leave of absent, too. I finally got it booted back up after Christmas.  Then a week later our power went off and so did my computer again.  I got it back up running Friday with the geek squad's help.  Wish it luck.  I hate being out of contact with the rest of the world.

Well, last week during the only week of warm weather in Mexico. We went to the cabin..  This was to be a work week.  And I was glad to come home and rest.  We cleaned and painted and cleaned and paint some more,  all week long.

Yes, the sun came up every day.  I got up just to watch it.  Beautiful.

There had been some rain.  So there were a few sand lilies in bloom.
I took the next two pictures for all of those who remember DEATH STARS. There were some of  these things growing in my sand.  If you don't know what a death star is just step on one with bare feet and you will know why we named the death stars.
Remember the days when you were bad and your punishment was to fill a bucket with death stars. There was so many it would take you all of 10 minutes to fill a big bucket.  But that is how we got rid of most of them.  Thanks kids for being just a little bad

I found this little watermelon growing in the sand.  Three little melons on one vine, this was the biggest and the smallest was the size of an marble.  Not enough water to make it any bigger and the vine had died and turned brown.  But it was good and I ate it.
We now have a new yellow refrigerator.  See the doors in the back ground.  We just painted and painted. When we ran out of one color we just painted the next thing a different color.
You will have to come to our cabin and see all the fun colors we have painted it.
